Philosophical Perspectives: Drafts 1 & 2

Draft 1:
Religion is the impotence of the human mind to deal with occurrences it cannot understand.
Karl Marx

And while there are many theoretical and practical differences among the various forms of Marxism, most forms of Marxism share:
an attention to the material conditions of people's lives, and social relations among people
a belief that people's consciousness of the conditions of their lives reflects these material conditions and relations
an understanding of class in terms of differing relations of production, and as a particular position within such relations
an understanding of material conditions and social relations as historically malleable
a view of history according to which class struggle, the evolving conflict between classes with opposing interests, structures each historical period and drives historical change
a sympathy for the working class or proletariat
and a belief that the ultimate interests of workers best match those of humanity in general.

Draft 2:

My object in life is to dethrone God and destroy capitalism.
Karl Marx

When Karl Marx stated this, he was saying that his meaning of life was to "dethrone God." Therefore being against religion, and trying to end capitalism and have a socialist socitey.

His meaning is along the same lines as Plato's who once stated

Dictatorship naturally arises out of democracy, and the most aggravated form of tyranny and slavery out of the most extreme liberty.
Plato

Artistic Perspective Draft 1 &2

Draft 1:
one of the movies that i watched was: Office Space directed by Mike Judge. Besides being one of the funniest movies , it is also has a lot to do with the meaning of life.
Office Space is a movie that shows you how meaningless everyday life is of the millions of people that work at the stereotypical 9-5. This movie shows that in a not so suttle way. It is unfortunate that this movie is so true. Luckily in the movie, the main character realizes that this is a meaningless life and chooses to live life the way he wants to. Also unfortunately, this is not so common in the real world. It shows how people just live their life, day by day without actually thinking about what it is their doing, or wondering what would really make them happy.

It shows you the sheep mentality of people and the way we can just be hearded into these pointless jobs that we do everyday - and that some people can take those jobs way to seriously. There is no real meaning involved in them.

One of the most influential graffiti artist's of today is Banksy. Some of my favorite images are listed above. Banksy wants to get the message out there to wake people up, that we are living in a police state and everything the government and corporations tell us is a lie. He tells this through painting, drawing and film. One really moving images of his is the first one listed above, the girl holding Ronald McDonald and Mikey Mouse's hands while in seriously obvious agony. When I look at this I see the bullshit that the corporations are trying to feed us and the true reality of what's really happening in the world. We can smile and keep on eating their bullshit or we can see through it and understand that there are seriously wrong things happening in this world having to do with the government and corporations and Banksy is telling us that with a simple image that is considered "vandalism" by the state.

Another image is the second one listed, an image of an infantry with smiley faces on the heads of the soldiers. This image is also trying to tell you that the government is bullshit and war is wrong and no one is really happy while fighting in a war.

When I see the third image listed, I see that Banksy is trying to get across that no matter where you are, even in the middle of no where, this is a poice state and someones always watching you and trying to monitor what your doing. You can be in New York City or Nowheresville, your still in a police state and the government is trying to f*ck you.

I love this about art because you can get so much from something that is so simple. There are many different ways of expressing yourself through art which is why it's so popular because people relate to the message that an artist is trying to get out.
